版木は木製であるがゆえに、湿度や虫害、摩耗によって失われやすく、現存するものは決して多くありません。特に神社仏閣やお蔵などに眠る版木には膠や墨が付着している事が多く、扱いには細心の注意が必要です。江戸、明治期の版木は貴重であり、版木そのものの調査・記録は文化財という視点で極めて重要な作業となります。

版木調査は保存修復とも密接に関係します。

摩耗した版木はそのまま摺ることが困難になるため、補刻（彫り直し）や複製制作が行われることがあります。

また、保存状態によってはカビが発生したり虫食いが発生したりしている場合もあります。こうした版木を調査することは単なる研究行為ではなく、文化財としての価値を未来へつなぐための基盤でもあります。

Examination and Reproduction of Antique Woodblocks

Woodblocks from the Edo and Meiji periods, often found dormant in shrines, temples, and storehouses, frequently bear traces of glue and ink, necessitating the utmost care in handling.

Furthermore, depending on their state of preservation, they may exhibit mould growth or insect damage.

Drawing upon the knowledge and experience cultivated over many years by Sekioka Mokuhan, we accept enquiries regarding the examination of (and creation of reproduction prints from) antique woodblocks.
